"Kabazaiku" is the only traditional craft in the world that makes crafts using the bark of wild cherry trees. The crafts rely not on machinery but the careful handiwork of skilled craftspeople. By using a method called "Katamono" (literally, "things made from molds") in which all the components of a tea caddy such as the outer lid, inner lid and the caddy are assembled in a wooden form, the lid fits on the caddy with amazing precision. The technique of Katamono, which puts the characteristics of thin and durable wild cherry bark to good use to make lightweight, durable and tightly sealable cylindrical containers, is a unique product of the Kabazaiku culture.
